ParaYoga Nidra: Enlightened Sleep – An Online ParaYoga Master Training/Immersion

Rod Stryker | November 13, 2022

Event Navigation

parayoga nidra yoga nidra

ParaYoga Nidra is the sublime method where deep, dreamless, sleep leads to the highest high of meditative experience. The practice is a form of complete relaxation and deep rest, a gateway to access total physical and mental healing and regeneration, however, it is potentially much more. In short, relaxation and deep rest is only the beginning of where the practice of Yoga Nidra can lead. In this immersion, you will discover how Yoga Nidra is less about relaxation or even sleep, and more about awakening, which is why yoga nidra––when approached systematically––can rightfully be called Enlightened Sleep.

Three practices a day are woven with deep study, self-reflection, and intention setting. We explore Yoga Nidra’s traditional roots (as found in Buddhist, Tantrik, and Upanishadik texts) and progress through its five distinct aims. We explore various approaches and decipher some of the yogic knowledge that reveals its foundational principles.

This 40-hour online course allows you to learn at your own pace and still have access to live-stream sessions with Rod.

Rod will lead live-streams (lectures and Q&A) starting Sunday, November 6, and again on the November 13, 20, 27 (10am-11:15am MST)
& December 4 (11am-12:15pm MST)

What Sets ParaYoga Nidra (PYN) Apart from Different Styles of Yoga Nidra?

ParaYoga Nidra is one of the five leading approaches to Yoga Nidra in the West. The other four use an identical template and seem to be sourced from a singular source, one that was developed in the past 50 years by the Bihar Yoga school. ParaYoga Nidra is based on the Himalayan tradition; its roots can be traced to the ancient texts. The approach facilitates entering all four stages of Yoga Nidra and, unlike other systems, uses five different templates, depending on the aim of a particular session. These are some of the reasons why it is distinct from other leading approaches.

What to Expect During This Training:

We delve into Yoga Nidra in light of the timeless teachings of the Mandukya Upanishad. This is one of the most essential scriptures of the yoga tradition. In addition to explaining the mantra OM, it explores which explains the four states of consciousness: waking, dreaming, sleeping, and beyond. The scripture outlines key insights into ParaYoga Nidra and the process of entering the “4th state.”

We also draw on the wisdom of the koshas (the five layers of consciousness: physical, energetic, mental, intellect, and causal bodies) to inform both your teaching and practice as well as life off the mat. The course also includes subtle movement and breathing practices as preparation for ParaYoga Nidra. You will want to ensure that you are warm and comfortable lying down for extended periods and ideally practicing in a space that is relatively peaceful and conducive to quiet study––along with your mat, consider using extra padding to lie on, and a small pillow for your head, etc.

This training is part of the 300-hour ParaYoga Master Training (PYMT) which is Yoga Alliance approved. It is open to everyone interested in learning about and experiencing ParaYoga Nidra. It is also a prerequisite ParaYoga Nidra Certification Program!

What students are saying about ParaYoga Nidra:

“ParaYoga Nidra is deeply transformational.  When the constrictions of breath and body and the stains of the mind dissolve, we can see clearly. When the source of suffering is revealed by our Soul and higher mind, we can plant the seeds of new ideas in the fertile field of consciousness. At the most elemental, ParaYoga Nidra relaxes and heals. At its most profound, you will be awakened to the fourth dimension, Turiya. Between those two, ParaYoga Nidra, when administered skillfully, serves as a tool to change unhelpful mental patterns and wrong self-perception and even heal the effects of trauma. Transformation is gradual but sometimes there are sudden leaps…I felt myself bursting out of the golden egg as a new person.”

“This training has been profound for me on a healing level, I have had so many breakthroughs & deep insights. I’m very grateful that I came into this training with a background in yoga as that depth allowed me to access the layers I did. Recognizing, seeing and feeling “the stain” was revolutionary for me––I’m so excited to work with my new sankalpa, it’s going to transform everything! I could never have arrived there on my own!”

“I am extremely grateful that I was able to have this transcendent experience with Yogarupa. I am not a teacher, but the ParaYoga Nidra training gave me so many invaluable tools to use in my personal practice.”
